Community

Welcome to our community. San Francisco State University, located in one of the world’s most vibrant and beautiful cities, is a recognized leader in addressing issues both global and close to home. We bring the classroom to the community, and the community to the classroom. A vibrant arts and culture center, the College of Creative Arts hosts hundreds of concerts, plays, film and video screenings, workshops, guest lectures and exhibits throughout the year. Events and exhibits feature the work of students and faculty members as well as professionals from outside the University community.

Donate Now

The College of Creative Arts thrives with your support. Help our students and programs reach their full potential. You can give to the Dean's Fund, or designate a gift to help support a particular program within the College, or important initiatives such as community outreach, scholarships and the planned Mashouf Creative Arts Center.

Set to open in 2012, this innovative building will house Broadcast and Electronic Communication Arts, Dance, Music and Theatre Arts. Replacing the current Creative Arts building, this new facility will include public performance spaces for the campus and community, classrooms and laboratory spaces to support our academic programs, an exhibition space and administrative offices. Your leadership gift provides us with an extraordinary opportunity to think creatively and flexibly about facilities that will power the arts on campus and in the community.

Make a gift online, or for more information, please contact our Development Office at 415/405-3805.

Community Service Learning

At the College of Creative Arts, the community is our classroom. We’re making a difference in your neighborhood.

Every year, students create promotional films and public service announcements for Bay Area nonprofit organizations, teach dance to disadvantaged inner-city children, travel to El Salvador to work on public art projects with children, travel to South America to teach media literacy and video making to youth, design products with San Francisco high schoolers, and more.

In all, the College offers 15 classes each semester designated as community service learning. Students not only earn course credit for their volunteer work, but also special community service learning credits. For more, visit the SF State Institute for Civic and Community Engagement Web site.
