American Chamber Players perform at Morrison Artists Series on Nov. 16

Ensemble led by NPR’s Miles Hoffman to play Mozart, Schoenfield, Bridge, Ginastera, Fauré

SAN FRANCISCO, October 20, 2008 — American Chamber Players, an internationally acclaimed ensemble combining mixed strings, flute and piano, will perform at San Francisco State University’s Morrison Artists Series at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, in the McKenna Theatre on campus. Admission is free.

American Chamber PlayersFounded in 1985 by violist Miles Hoffman from a core group of artists of the Library of Congress Summer Chamber Festival, the American Chamber Players have developed a loyal following for its performances of familiar masterpieces, neglected gems and newly commissioned American works. The group has toured throughout North America and performed at gala concerts at the Paris Opera and Bibliothèque Nationale. The Washington Post writes: “They have established standards of chamber music performance equal to any in the world.” The American Chamber Players have been heard many times on National Public Radio’s “Performance Today” and are resident ensemble of the June Chamber Festival in Washington, D.C. Hoffman, the group’s artistic director, is the music commentator for NPR’s “Morning Edition” and the author of “The NPR Classical Music Companion: Terms and Concepts from A to Z,” now in its ninth printing from Houghton Mifflin.

On Nov. 16, the American Chamber Players will perform Mozart: Quartet for Flute and Strings in D Major, K. 285; Schoenfield: “Three Bagatelles” for Flute, Cello and Piano; Bridge: Phantasie Piano Quartet, F-sharp Minor; Ginastera: Duo for Flute and Violin, Op. 13; and Fauré: Quartet No. 1 in C Minor for Piano and Strings, Op. 15.

The Morrison Artists Series is presented at San Francisco State University’s College of Creative Arts. Bringing Bay Area audiences the world’s finest chamber music since 1955, the Morrison Artists Series was created as part of the Morrison Chamber Music Center. Led by Artistic Director Saul Gropman, the Morrison Artists Series presents six free Sunday afternoon performances each year by acclaimed chamber music ensembles in the 700-seat McKenna Theatre on the SF State campus. McKenna Theatre is located in the Creative Arts Building on the SF State campus, 1600 Holloway Ave. (at 19th Ave.), San Francisco. Public parking is available in Lot 20, accessed from Lake Merced Boulevard between Winston Drive and Font Boulevard. On weekends and evenings only, public parking is available in Lots 1 and 2, on Holloway Ave. (at 19th Ave.). Parking is $1 per hour with a $5 daily maximum.
