Time for Three performs at Morrison Artists Series on Dec. 14
Young string trio’s classical virtuosity is mashed up with bluegrass, jazz, gypsy and country
SAN FRANCISCO, November 19, 2008 — Time for Three, a dynamic string trio transcending traditional genres with unique arrangements of classical, bluegrass, Hungarian gypsy, rock, jazz and country-western standards plus its own works, will perform at San Francisco State University’s Morrison Artists Series at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, in McKenna Theatre on campus. Admission is free.
Time for Three (Tf3) is equally comfortable offering its own arrangements of shorter classical works and popular hits, whether Brahms or the Beatles. The trio, comprised of double bassist Ranaan Meyer and violinists Zachary DePue and Nicolas Kendall, continues to write and arrange all manner of music and has launched a major commissioning program to expand its repertoire for both symphony orchestras and concert series. Graduates of the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, Tf3’s members, though still in their late 20s, have performed with many of the world’s pre-eminent conductors and orchestras. Tf3 has performed in distinguished venues such as the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston, 92nd Street Y in New York and Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Tf3 has two CDs, with a third, “Three Fervent Travelers,” coming soon. The trio can also be heard on the soundtrack to the 2005 History Channel documentary “Spanish-American War.” Visit: www.tf3.com.
Back by popular demand to SF State’s Morrison Artists Series after a 2006 concert, Time for Three will announce its program from the stage, selecting from its original compositions and arrangements of works by Bach, Brahms, the Beatles, Jay Unger, Charlie Rouse, Leonard Cohen and much more.
The Morrison Artists Series is presented at San Francisco State University’s College of Creative Arts. Bringing Bay Area audiences the world’s finest chamber music since 1955, the Morrison Artists Series was created as part of the Morrison Chamber Music Center. Led by Artistic Director Saul Gropman, the Morrison Artists Series presents six free Sunday afternoon performances each year by acclaimed chamber music ensembles in the 700-seat McKenna Theatre on the SF State campus.
