He added a music education degree from San Francisco State University. After his first guest conducting experience in Spokane in 1975, he earned a master's degree in orchestral conducting from Eastern Washington University and interspersed conducting with teaching, including a stint selling pool tables as he looked for a music job.
Currently, he is principal conductor of the Orchestra Sinfonia d'Amici, London, England and an adjunct professor of music at Idaho State University.
